Does Trademarking a Logo in Canada Protect the Name?

Trademarking a logo in Canada does not automatically protect the name of your business even if that name is part of your logo. Each of these elements requires a separate trademark and if your logo includes your name or slogan it will require two trademarks to protect everything. One trademark is required to protect the graphic portion of the logo while a second trademark is required to protect the name or slogan portion, if these items are not already trademarked.
